The Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital, the leading centre for complementary medicine in the NHS, joined UCLH in April 2002. The merger enables closer collaboration between complementary therapies and conventional medicine to provide better care for NHS patients. The merger co-incides with the government's commitment to integrate complementary and conventional care within the NHS, where there is evidence of the effectiveness of complementary therapies.
RLHH has recently undergone a comprehensive £20m makeover to transform it into a centre for integrated medicine. Construction on the new centre in Queen's Square began in the Summer of 2002.
The new hospital provides state-of-the-art treatment and research facilities in homoeopathic and complementary therapies as well as access to a wide range of conventional expertise in the rest of UCL Hospitals.
The new RLHH centre incorporates existing approaches and test the efficacy of new ones, including ambulatory care; inpatient, outpatient and consultation suites; diagnostic services; therapy and treatment areas; education, conference and research facilities; retail and pharmaceutical outlets.
