OverviewHopi Ear Candles (often shortened to Ear Candles) are hollow tubes traditionally made from organically grown flax, extracts of honey, beeswax and herbs. These candles provide a non-invasive treatment of the ears which are used to treat a variety of conditions in a practice often known as Thermal Auricular Therapy. Ear candles are used widely throughout Europe, America and Asia by GP's and hospitals to treat a variety of ear, nose and throat conditions. As the hopi ear candle treatment is a non-invasive, relaxing and soothing experience, the popularity of earcandling continues to increase and is a frequent topic of health related radio and magazine articles. HistoryThe history of hopi ear candles is a long one. Ear candles are an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations. They were used as far afield as Asia, the Siberian prairies, and most notably native America. It is believed that the Ancient Greeks used ear candles, initially probably for cleansing, purifying and healing on a spiritual basis, but much later on a purely physical basis. However, the practice reached the modern world via the native North American Hopi Indians. Ear candles were used traditionally by Shamen healers. Ancient wall paintings (such as those found within the caves of the Grand Canyon) show the importance of earcandling in initiation rituals and healing ceremonies of the tribe. BenefitsThough results may vary from patient to patient, some of our practitioners and clients have reported to us that hopi ear candles can be helpful with:
ProcedureYou are usually asked to lie comfortably and to relax. The hopi ear candle is then gently placed into the auditory canal, where it is lit and held in a vertical position. The therapists hands keep the candle steady. You will then experience a pleasant crackling sound and a warm comfortable feeling as the candle burns. The candle is allowed to burn down until it reaches a specific marker indicated on its side and then it is taken away while you lie there for a few moments. The process is then repeated on the other ear. Many therapists conclude treatment with a facial massage to help lymph and blood circulation, as well as the natural drainage of the ear.
