Overview

Kirlian Photography makes visible the body's biological and energetic exchange producing a 'corona' effect around the image being photographed ie the hands. These images can be 'read' by experienced practitioners giving information about the subject's energetic, physical, emotional and psychological state.

History

In 1939 a Russian engineer, Semyon Kirlian chanced to see an electrical discharge from a high-voltage machine being used in a medical laboratory. He wondered what would happen if a photographic plate were placed in the vicinity of this discharge. He placed his hand near the machine and interposed the plate. When developed, he found "a sort of luminescence in the shape of the contours of the fingers".

With the help of his wife, Valentina, Kirlian experimented for many years, finally persuading the Russian Government to take an interest in the diagnostic possibilities and provide him with a fully equipped laboratory and funds. Knowledge of his work eventually spread beyond the Iron Curtain, reaching this country in the early 1970s when Brian Snellgrove, in particular, explored the subject in great depth, becoming the originator of the Kirlian Aura hand diagnosis.

Benefits

The electrical field of the Kirlian camera amplifies and makes visible the body's biological and energetic exchange producing a "corona" effect around the image being photographed. Experienced Kirlian practitioners can 'read' from the subtle emanations information about the subject's energetic, physical, emotional and psychological state, as well as evidence of disease before it manifests in the physical body.

Kirlian photography can be a valuable diagnostic tool when used in conjunction with a range of complementary therapies, e.g. acupuncture, homeopathy, reflexology, and as well as providing a "launching pad" for the therapeutic process, can be used throughout to monitor progress.

Procedure

The photo-sensitive paper is placed directly onto the machine and the hands (or whatever is being photographed) are then placed, one at a time, onto the paper while the Kirlian machine is energised for a few seconds. The paper is then developed in the normal way.

The picture, then, is an interference pattern between two fields of energy, the energy generated by the Kirlian camera and that generated by the human aura*. (Repeated studies have shown that the corona emanation does not relate to skin temperature, resistance or to perspiration). This process, discovered by Semyon and Valentina Kirlian in 1939, has since been extensively researched and refined by independent laboratories and health practitioners throughout the world, being used in the material sciences, biological sciences, agriculture, pharmaceutical research, holistic health and more.

*Aura: open to much speculative interpretation, the word is used here to include radiations, electromagnetic frequencies, life force, bio-plasma etc.
