Overview

Channeling is a New Age or modern form of spiritism or mediumship. A person allows a spiritual entity to temporarily enter and use their body so the spirit can interact with other people. Most channelers are not even aware of what goes on during the time the entity takes over them. Channeling is considered positive in New Age circles to expand spiritual development.

History

Channeling activity, understood in its wider sense to include spirit possession in general, can be traced back to the earliest times and civilizations. The acceptance of animism (the belief that spirits are present in all of nature, including plants, inert objects, and seasons) or the practice of ancestor veneration have provided primitive cultures with sufficient groundwork for the rise of spiritism.

Channeling can be traced back to the ancient religions of Egypt, India, and the Near East; thus, we should pay special attention to the Biblical injunctions on this topic.

The commandments given to Moses after the Exodus from Egypt (about 1400 B.C.) expressly forbid communication with "spirit mediums" (Lev. 19:31) [6], or going to one who "inquires of the dead" (Deut. 18:11). Mosaic law prescribed the death penalty both for the medium and for the person who sought out the medium for advice (Lev. 20:6, 27). Indeed, one of the chief reasons that King Saul, the first king of Israel, was slain was for "going to one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it" (1 Chron. 10:13). Seven hundred years after Mt. Sinai, in the days of Isaiah, the prohibition still remained. Those who sought information from "mediums and wizards" were to be answered brusquely: "Should not a people seek their God instead? Should they seek to the dead on behalf of the living?" (Isa. 8:19)

In New Testament times, possession and control by discarnate spirits were accepted realities. The actions of Jesus in casting out "demons" and "unclean spirits" are mentioned repeatedly in the New Testament (Matt. 8:28ff, 9:32ff, 12:22ff, 17:14ff, etc.). Jesus likewise commissioned his apostles to cast out demons (Matt. 10:1) and gave this authority to others not numbered among the Twelve (Luke 10:17). The early church continued to conduct exorcisms (Acts 8:7,19:12).

Benefits

Channeling can bring real benefits in our daily lives. When surfing the Internet we may come across new, surprising information. Similarly, when surfing the waves of our consciousness we reach expanded levels of understanding. In modern parlance we are truly on-line, potentially able to click onto inspiration and access unlimited creativity.

Specifically, channeling helps us to be in tune with ourselves and to become more aware of the natural world, in harmony with the environment and the wider creation. It also helps us develop a sense of purpose for ourselves and the collective. Life takes on more meaning and direction.

Channeling helps us discover our full potential and learn to stand in our own truth. And, as we increase our ability to find self-empowerment, we enable others to grow in self-realisation too.

When our channels open to creative potential we awaken dormant talents. To discover that one can draw, sculpt or sing may well be just one of the surprise benefits on the journey. Once the creative spirit is awakened, the possibilities are unlimited.

Procedure

This channeling of information can come in several forms – Direct Translation, Metaphorical Translation or Trance Channeling.

Direct Translation is where the medium acts as a translator or interpreter between the spiritual and the physical realm. The medium simply tells what they are being told from the other side and thereby bridges the gap between the two realms.

This is the type of channeling that allows people to contact those people that have passed from this world to the next – usually loved ones, and is often used as a way for people to make peace with the departed or to know that all is well with their transition.

Metaphorical Translation is where guidance is given in more of a symbolic way –the phrase “A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words” is the cliché of the day in this instance. A picture is described and then a translation may or may not come, leaving room for the client to add their own interpretation. This guidance comes from the Spirit Realm and is often the best form of guidance for the person seeking the reading.

Trance Channeling is the guidance of a highly evolved Being, brought through by using a medium’s body as their own. Each Being has their own idiosyncrasies as much as you or I have our own individual personalities. The wisdom is often very profound and is very much aimed at the person seeking the reading. Each Being channelled through has their own specialty or field so to speak, and so depending upon what type of information you are requiring determines what level of satisfaction you will get from the experience.
